It's in the mall. It's fast food. It's not supposed to be jazzy or unique. It's just supposed to fill your stomach and make you feel guilty later. In that sense, it's pretty good. Aside from that I think you could accurately describe this place with 3 letters: MSG.

I went to Jewel of India for the lunch buffet a few days ago, and I was not impressed by any aspect of the restaurant. For starters, it doesn't really have its own atmosphere, and certainly not one that matches the theme. There wasn't a lot of space, and I wouldn't have even known I was in the place if not for a sign in the door - the wait staff didn't really pay me any attention. As for the food: it was pretty good. The basmati rice and tandoori chicken were dry and somewhat bland, and the "salad" was just some sloppily-thrown-together iceberg lettuce with a few tomato slices and some green peppers. My biggest problem, though, was spending $7 on a lunch "buffet" that featured 6 items, two of which were rice and bread. I wanted the buffet to get a good sample of their Indian food offerings, but I was disappointed by the total lack of options.

Reviewed: Buzzy's Pizza Emporium

I think Buzzy's is terribly underrated. They offer a vast menu and it's all reasonably priced, and for your usual local pizza joint, the food was on par with expectations! I've never had a reason to complain, and their prices are lower than most other places in town. Oh, and the mac n' cheese slice at $3 even is possible the best drunk food ever conceived (much better than NYPD's and J&J's take on it).

Reviewed: The Goat Coffee House - Water Street

I seem to have had an atypical experience at the Goat. I will admit that the coffee was great, but after seeing the portions, I couldn't shell out the dough for those "sandwiches." Maybe they were amazing, though, so I won't factor that into my rating. The reason I'm rating the Goat so low is because the two women working during my first visit ignored me for an unreasonable amount of time to talk to their friends or other customers. I let that slide when they finally did greet me and ask for my order, but they were so dismissive and just not polite. I'll have a hard time ever returning...

Since when did working in a hipster coffee house make you deserving of the biggest ego in food service? The drinks were good, the food was typical coffee-house fare, but I just couldn't deal with the people who work here. Some people find aloofness charming, but it has no place in food service. These people barely had the time to look at me, much less put on a friendly smile. I'll be back to give them a second chance...but only because it's a nice, peaceful place to relax.

If you're dumb enough to eat the sushi at a Chinese buffet, you deserve the stomach pains and uncomfortable bowel movements that inevitably follow...but when a Chinese buffet tries to dress up its "sushi bar" and trick you into eating the same awful-quality seafood...that's downright wrong. Couple that with the menu items that are somehow lower-par than the Chinese buffet standard and the unsettling neon atmosphere and you have a real winner. Er...loser.

My only experience with this restaurant was going there to watch Eggplant Heroes with some friends. I will say, the place is very nice for its atmosphere, but I just can't justify spending $6 on a small sandwich like that unless it really blows me away, and it didn't Granted, I haven't tried out the rest of the menu, but the hot sandwiches are just...uninspired. I love the local vibe, and supporting local businesses is important, but the food just wasn't that good, haha.

Reviewed: Burrachos Fresh Mexican Grill – Prill Road

I should add that trying to tell the difference between Burrachos/Qdoba/Chipotle is like trying to tell the difference between Coke and Pepsi. If you think there is one, you're kidding yourself. This is virtually the same exact food as the aforementioned chains, except for those tiny variations that set the three apart (salsas, queso blanco, the way the sauteed veggies are cooked, etc.). Silly, silly people.

I am certainly no proponent of this kind of casual/fast-food restaurant, but if you can screw up a burrito then you're really doing something terribly wrong. Burrachos is one of my guilty pleasures, and the price to portion ratio can't be beat. Seriously, how can you not love queso blanco drizzled over some chicken with rice and beans? It's too easy, but I love it.

Reviewed: Erbert and Gerbert’s - London Road

Someone please enlighten me as to the reason for all of the buzz. What's so special about Erb's and Gerb's? I'll admit the soups are good, and the box lunches are a good deal, but all of the sandwiches are exactly the same as Jeff & Jim's / Milio's, with minor variations. These places aren't worth the money. Do yourself and your community a favor and find a local joint instead.
