24,000 signatures......but where are they from?......I would be very surprised if 25% of them are from a City of EC residents

Grocery Wars: 1998–2017

We need another "different owner" grocery store in EC, not because we need more grocery stores, but because Festival is now the only "full service" store in the area....full service = store with on-site prep in bakery, deli, meat counter, etc. There was a rumor about HyVee looking at the EC KMart site earlier this year....that would fill this need.

I seem to remember hearing some years back that there is a lot of asbestos in this building & the cost of removing it has hampered any renovations to the unused parts of the building.

A New District

larryms

Anyone else think that Mr. Zempel is a wee bit arrogant naming his bar "The District" when there already is an older & many years established business 2 blocks down the street from him named "The District Company"?

Colorful Crossing

The Downtown EC FB page showed a test run of the lights a day or 2 ago. That would leave me to believe the lights are installed, now its probably just some final adjustments & programing to do. They also stated they were aiming for an early Oct. dedication ceremony.

plus don't forget the Menomonie St. end of Water St. where the YMCA's new tennis center is going up & the area where UWEC will soon start demolishing a very heavy industrial looking area for its new event center, a new main YMCA bldg. & possibly a hotel or 2.

NOOOO Melvin!, its just me walking on the right hand side of the trail & I repeat "very, very, VERY few announce their presence when they approach a walker from the rear"

Weren't there going to be "No bike riding…

replied to: Unfortunately, some bicyclists do not…

yes....one big complaint about EC bicyclists, very, very, VERY few announce their presence when they approach a walker from the rear. I've been startled by numerous bikers while walking on the trails.....you need to let us walkers know & at least 20+ feet back, not when you are just a few feet behind us.

I agree with Barbara.....plus one other factor, the construction going on at the west end of the building (Confluence Center & next summer's Plaza & pedestrian bridge installation) give new business a "I want to wait until the dust settles some" attitude before I invest money in my business there.

YES it is in a flood plain......so what's your concern?

8 Numbers: Exploring Downtown Data

I suspect that this number is skewed by a lot of students in the area plus 4 homeless/halfway house shelters & a large low income housing unit in the area. Should improve some with more new apts. & condos coming into the area.

replied to: What is "dirty riprap" in the first image?

riprap is a stone layer so I'm guessing dirty riprap is a stone layer with soil in the gaps to support the native plants

How come so much grass???? In original meetings about this space, the talk was about a lot of events held here with a need for numerous power outlets & hook ups for other electronics/computer equipment plus other kinds of event staging equipment. Grass will not hold up to the high traffic volume. Grass is for parks.....this was sold as a plaza, plazas have more hard surfaces. Someone please explain the change in direction???????

Wouldn't surprise me to see Festival build a 2nd store in the area, the one they have has been really busy & crowded since Mega left the area.

If the park was in some remote up-north area, yes this sign would be out of place, but it is in the center of an urban area where it adds texture to the urban skyline....its just fine right where it is.

Any possibility that a trail underpass is put in by the Dewey St bridge? The street trail crossing at Galloway & Dewey can be rather hazardous at times now & will only get worse with more high density buildings on this site.
