Bright Lights, Big City: Technicolor light…

Can you say light pollution? Gawdy? Think of that annoying neighbor who leaves their Christmas lights up for months on end, lighting up the peaceful night endlessly...that’s what downtown Eau Claire will look like... Redneck Vegas baby!

My hope is that the same forces driving the Confluence Project will have the forsight to be part of a solution to the lack of adequate housing for the homeless in Eau Claire. Not out of obligation, but being good citizens. It's the right thing to do, and it's smart business. After all, most of the truly homeless in Eau Claire live under the bridges and surrounding the very geographical area all this development is occurring in. With our high poverty rate, this is something that isn't going to go away without the community addressing it. Turn that ugly old Kmart into a modern homeless shelter... there is enough space for alot of folks, and maybe even vocational programs.

So, the bus facilities suck because lower income people use it...? Brilliant response Melvin_Blubber. I bet you feel the same way about the homeless problem in Eau Claire, inadequate facilities and people living beneath the bridges right by your fancy new hipster entertainment digs...just look the other way so you don't have to see them, right? The City of Eau Claire has a responsibility to provide bus facilities that don't suck like they have for decades. They receive federal money, grants, subsidies, and also our tax dollars, which is more than enough funding fora a decent bus transfer station for those folks you so casually denigrate...

Cry Me Two Rivers, great idea, but as Melvin_Blubber so clearly illustrates, the people with influence over public policy and the spending of tax dollars in this town are more interested in entertainment, fancy places to eat and expensive sidewalks than good infrastructure. The City Council has been sitting on proposals to move the bus transfer station for some time. My primary point is, the place has had virtually no work done or attention in decades. Surely such a PROGRESSIVE city as Eau Claire could only benefit from suitable facilities at the transfer point for it's public transportation.

Biggest Thing We Should Make Happen Soon

It may not be the "biggest thing" that "we" should make happen, but while all this fabulous development happens, Eau Claire has the worst bus transfer station imaginable. It's decades old, no toilet except a porta-pottie and is embarrassing. It needs to go, everyone talks about going green and alternative transportation and the many people who use the bus have a dump for a transfer station. While other taxpayer funded projects get fast tracked, the bus station remains a downtown eyesore...
