Building the Empire

The beer wall is novel, and because I'm a beer nut I'll probably check it out once... but unless the selection is phenomenal it'll be added to the list of ho-hum restaurants in town. So! Take heed. Get something interesting on tap and you'll snag some of the beer crowd, which, is apparently massive in this area. Oh, and good scotch. Keep that on hand, too. It's challenging to find good scotch in Eau Claire, only a couple places stock it.

Village of Terror

I, too, was impressed with what they've done out there. It's not extremely terrifying, but I was glad about that. Everyone is nice and doesn't take themselves TOO seriously which makes for a fun night.

Open and Closed

The Cabin in Chippewa Falls is actually changing locations, it's moving to the old Naborhood Bakery building.

Wasn't The Haymarket closure due to a building agreement, not so much the business itself failing to make end's meet?

Felix - I don't have their hummus recipe but after having theirs at Earth Day in 2009 I developed my own. Check it out at http://everyoneeats-everyoneeats.blogspot.com/2009/12/roasted-red-pepper-hummus.html

Let me know what you think.

Piersona is right. Some things have changed, and for the better. They now offer a good array of sandwiches made even better by putting them on special bread. Try the tuna on ciabatta with the tapenade and the fingerling potatoes. It's the same type of tuna steak served at Mogies, if you like that one.

Running Away from Home

KatieV I think it's probably because you're a genuinely kind/nice person, so people have the urge to return the niceness. People who ooze bad attitude tend to get it right back from others.

The most holy of fried fishes

cwhite

Cadott's St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church has an EXCELLENT fish fry that never disappoints.

Went to the fish fry by my house, St. Olaf's on the north side, and have to say I LOVE fish and the fish they were serving was SOOO bad I couldn't even eat it. YUCK.

I tend to stay away from church fish fries after the bad experience at St. Olaf's :-(

Bicycling adds about $1.5 billion to the…

I enjoy biking, and I appreciate the trail network and not having to navigate traffic while on them. However, I am very upset that the new stretch of trail along Anderson Drive (between Melby and Eddy) has somehow required taking down a massive amount of trees growing between Anderson and the highway. I can only hope that there will be some trees replanted when the trail is done being paved.

The other reviewer is right on. Not the typical Americanized Mexican fare - but then, those places are a dime a dozen. $2 for a huge cilantro and onion topped chorizo taco - can't beat that! Best tortilla chips in town - get the homemade guacamole to go with - also the best in town. Be adventurous and try one of the fountain beverages or for dessert one of the little orange (sqaush) macaroon-style treats in the clear bins near the register. In summer - a coconut cream popsicle!

Anyone drinking the raw milk?

cwhite

Mike, if you're lactose intolerant like me, you can drink raw milk with no ill effects because it contains the lactase emzyme we're missing. (The pasteurization process kills the lactase along with many of the nutrients in the raw milk.) It's fun to make ice cream with but I'm not a milk drinker either.

Went back again because we liked the atmosphere (and the country music) so much. The menu should be simpler without so many items hit-or-miss. The fried calamari was spot-on - but one would hope since it's just deep fried. They need to get a handle on how to properly make those fresh-cut french fries because when done well would be an asset. And for gosh sakes be generous with the fries! They're cheap! Nice selection of tap beer - we liked that some of the domestics are being phased out and replaced with local or unique beers that will draw people in. Get the bloody mary without the relish/salsa. Our bartender told us that's how we should order it - we appreciated that.

Come here for lovely breakfast food and reasonably priced ones at that. Consistently good. They even managed to do a great job on my eggs when I asked for "over hard." Most cooks can't seem to manage that one. Great french toast, pancakes, sausage, bacon, eggs, etc.

I am always satisfied after leaving here. I love that the menu pictures each dish and describes what's in it (down to the herbs) so I know if I'll like it or not. I try something different every time and have enjoyed it all.

Have been going to this place since I was little, it's been more than 20 years now. I still get an order of onion rings and a root beer. Still the same great taste. If I'm sharing, I usually get the cheese curds, too! I just love this place!

It's a great place to come if you're feeling laid back and want a DELICIOUS cheap burger and good beer selection for an affordable price. Also, I get the fish sandwich a lot.
