Let’s Talk Winter: Wintermission…

Great to see this initiative - particularly during this cold and snowy winter in Eau Claire. A sustained effort to keep us healthy and connected during the short days might include more events at the Pablo (even just music and dancing in the lobby), night fire pits at Haymarket Plaza, subsidized gym memberships, and organized walks across the three bridges (Phoenix Park, Confluence and Grand Avenue). I'll bring these ideas to the Visit Eau Claire-Pablo Center meetings.

New Children’s Museum Will Share Space…

Wow -what a great development for our downtown. I always felt that the Family Resource Center belongs in the heart of our city, and so am glad it will return. The Children's Museum has always brought a nice family balance to the restaurants and businesses -- it will be great to see it now adjacent to Phoenix Park.

Downtown Digs for Seniors

Great news for our downtown. Perhaps the commercial amenities could also be tailored to serve the many senior residents of the Park Tower Apartments, just
"kitty corner" to the planned development.

What a great opportunity to reflect on our past, and to do so in the historic State Theatre. Reminds me of the stone walkway inscriptions in Phoenix Park, telling the tales of Eau Claire's past.

While I didn't always agree with President Kinkaid's votes, I found her to be open, respectful and devoted to Eau Claire. Her work on the Confluence Project, downtown revitalization, and balanced development served us well.

Now is the time to let our newer (and less experienced) council members know what we want.

More good news for our increasingly vibrant downtown; congratulations to our city staff for crafting a strong proposal. I do hope that apartments are reasonably priced, as a balance to the more luxurious north Barstow accommodations next to Phoenix Park. I'm also hopeful that this important step forward for public transit is accompanied by consideration of on-demand shuttles to replace lesser-used bus routes.

Eau Claire Voters Would Decide If Possible…

I didn't realize that the Sonnentag gift and project would need such substantial additional financial support -- having seen renderings of the proposed facility for about a year, I had assumed construction funding was in place.

I like the green wind/water/fire design because it offers a better year-round venue, and would like to suggest a couple of pine trees to provide perennial color. Use of the fire pit would be controlled by permit. With the arts center providing four performance stages, I see the park as an oasis and nexus for students, bicyclists, shoppers and kids.
