Reviewed: Yankee Jack's Public House

Just went here the other day for the first time. It was really quite amazing. Excellent menu, something for everyone, carnivores and vegetarians alike. The food was some of the finest quality I have had at pretty much any restaurant in town. Beware, the portions of huge!

By far the best Asian food in town. Always hot and fresh. Excellent menu, fresh vegetables and the meat is of outstanding quality. The owner is fantastic. Very friendly.

Reviewed: Hardee’s - Clairemont Ave

Absolutely the best Hardee's in the area! Food is always fresh and hot. The order takers are always super friendly and accurate. Would highly recommend going to this location even if it is more of a drive because the food is just prepared that much better.

Reviewed: Hardee's - Golf Road

This new Hardee's on Golf Road is the worst! I have been there a dozen times for its easy drive for me. The food is almost always luke warm to cold (especially the fries). I would say that easily 3 of 5 times the order is made wrong.

Reviewed: Taco John’s - Brackett Ave

This has got to be the very worst Taco John's in the state. I used to go to this location all the time. Using the drivethru, three out of five times they forget something from the order. The food is constantly old and cold!! The staff and management are nearly always unfriendly. Stay away, and get your cheap, garbage food from one of the other local fast food places.

Reviewed: Johnny's Pizza Shop

All I can say is, fantastic! This is a local, independent pizza place. I got a slice of sausage & pepperoni stuffed pizza with a soda and a Caesar salad. The pizza has a great sauce with just enough spice to give it some great flavor and it came with a cup of extra sauce. The crust had a delicious, buttery taste to it. The cheese was real mozzarella and had a salty snap. The sausage and pepperoni were high-quality. The Caesar salad was fresh and crunchy. Very inexpensive. I'll be going back!

Reviewed: Houligans Steak & Seafood Pub

This is a pretty classy place. I have been here several times with only slightly varying experiences. The food is not quite as “high-end” as one might expect from the decor and prices but still quite excellent just the same. The service has been good to very good. I would recommend this place for a really enjoyable sit-down dinning experience or to impress local guests.

I have been to this place many times from the day they opened until just recently. The first several times I went there, the service was poor but the food was great. I would have easily given it four stars. But from that time until the last time I was there the food has been terrible and the service worse. We waited forever, the food was cold and cheap and the service was so rude and unhelpful, I actually got angry. I will never go back there again. Please keep in mind that this review is based on the last three of four times I went there (stupid to keep going back, I know).

Streets - General Discussion

HETSTADIUM

I would like to see slower, greener streets around the Chippewa Valley. I would also like to see more wheelchair accessibility in the Valley. How about we start with the majority of businesses on Water Street and Downtown. These areas were never built with wheelchairs in mind (and I get that), but if we are going to reinvent these areas, let us please keep everybody in mind.

Reviewed: McDonald’s - Menomonie

I have never had a problem with McDonald’s as a chain. Yes, they hide behind a barrage of marketing, but it would be the same as if cigarettes came out and said they were good for you. You would have to be pretty dull to not know that McDonald’s is garbage. I imagine it as one of those science fiction movies where the whole population lives on some kind of semi-nutritious goo. Is it soylent green? Who knows? But I guess that is my point. You don’t want to know what it is. McDonald’s is king man. They have perfected the whole thing. You can go across the world and have the same hamburger anywhere you go. If I am driving down the highway and need to stop, I will typically go to a McDonald’s because, at least, you know exactly what you’re going to get. Has far as local McDonald’s go, I have been to all of them at one time or another. I have had varying experiences at all of them. I would say the worst experience you can have at a McDonald’s is showing up right “after” a rush because you get the leftover heat lamped trash.

Reviewed: Wendy’s - Menomonie

I have ceased going to Wendy’s all together as a chain. They seem to be very poorly managed everywhere I go. Typically unfriendly service and greasy, low quality food. Oh yeah, have you ever had hot fries at a Wendy’s? I don’t believe I have ever been to a clean Wendy’s either. What does that tell you?

Reviewed: Culver's - Menomonie

I have always liked Culver’s. The food has always been of good quality for fast food. Also, their ice cream is of quite good quality. I normally go through the drive-thru for my meals but have, many times, eaten in the restaurant with friends and family. The service is always friendly and the restaurant always clean. I am afraid the quality of the food has been slipping away over the years however. The hamburgers have been becoming increasingly more greasy and flat. There has also been sort of a downturn in some of the other selections also. To make matters worse, the prices have been increasing steadily over the years. Culver’s is slowly becoming a quite expensive place to eat. I love to go out for a fish fry but don’t always have the time or desire to go to a regular restaurant to get it. Culver’s has an outstanding Friday night fish fry but be prepared to shell out the cash in excess of any local restaurant for it. In the fast food world however, Culver’s is still on the top.

Reviewed: Randy’s Family Restaurant

I must say that I like Randy’s. The service is always super friendly and very helpful. The restaurant is clean and warm. Almost feels like sitting in your grandparent’s house. When you get there early enough, your meal comes with a complementary cup of the most fantastic warm pudding. The breakfast, lunch and dinners I have had there have always been good. Prepared to order, the food is always hot and fresh. Very reasonable prices and excellent atmosphere makes it a great place to go with family. The one big downside to Randy’s is the quality of the food. Although hot and fresh, it is commercial type frozen food for the most part.

Reviewed: Panera Bread

I have been to this location a few times now and have never left feeling hungry. I believe the price tag for most menu items is on the steep side in relation to what you get. The food seems to be of a high quality for a chain restaurant. The service has always been friendly. It is a sterile, corporate, cafeteria-style dinning experience and not always overly clean during busy times. I can recommend this place for a quick, quality lunch.

Reviewed: Mancino’s Grinders and Pizza

I have always had a certain fondness for Mancino’s because it used be a great place. I am afraid that they have started to go down hill a bit over the years though. I very rarely ever eat at the Commonwealth Ave location anymore because the service can be terrible and the food barely palatable, usually because of its poor preparation. Unfriendly and inconvenienced is the feeling I normally get when dinning at this location. The ham is often fatty and grisly. They seem to have a pretty high turnover for employees and I have not been back to that location for a while. I now frequent the W. Clairemont Ave location and have found it to be a better dinning experience and typically better food overall. When the grinders are well prepared, they are fantastic. One of the very best hot sandwiches around. I have had the pizza before and was entirely unimpressed. I think the only difference between a frozen pizza from the grocery store and their pizza is: I didn’t have to make it myself.

Reviewed: Kobe's Japanese

I really love this place even though I kind of hate eating in the mall. The service is always friendly and the food always hot and fresh. The chicken teriyaki is the only thing I get anymore. I have had the beef teriyaki and was not nearly as impressed. I am very disappointed that they seemed to have toned down their teriyaki flavor over time. It seems to be fairly consistent otherwise.
