Opening Reception - Of the Earth: Paintings by Jessica Mongeon

photos by Serena Wagner

This series of paintings focuses on symbiotic plants and fungi that grow in Northwest Wisconsin, taking them out of their original context and transforming them into a new landscape. Disorder and the inevitable breaking down of systems are properties of nature that lead to growth; likewise, Mongeon's painting process is a form of controlled chaos. She applies acrylic with wide brushes, allowing pigments to pool, interact and solidify into a version of harmony.

The opening reception was Friday, May 1; the show runs through July 4.
