More Floor: Dreamhouse Interiors opens showroom
After more than 40 years in the business – first in the Chicago area, then for the past two decades in the Chippewa Valley – Gordy Pillar knows floors. Whether it’s custom-installed hardwood, refinished wood, or some other type of floor treatment, “When I talk to people, I can get a pretty good feel of what they’re looking for,” he explains.
Pillar has owned and operated Dreamhouse Interiors from his home in Altoona, bringing samples to customers with a mobile showroom inside a trailer. However, he recently took on a new challenge by opening a permanent showroom for the wide range of flooring he installs, a retail space that will also allow him to expand his product offerings.
The new showroom is quickly taking shape at 2230 Eastridge Center, just off Hastings Way. Step inside, and you’re greeted by a floor that’s an eye-catching patchwork of more than a dozen options, including red birch, cherry, white and red oak, maple, walnut, Douglas fir, hickory, and more – each offering its own unique color and texture. In addition to installing and refinishing hardwood, Dreamhouse works with other kinds of flooring, including carpeting and ceramic tile.
And, thanks to the new space, Dreamhouse will not only be able to provide customers with more flooring choices but also is looking forward to offering different kinds of home products, including window coverings and handcrafted, locally made Amish furniture.
Office manager Mary Lauer said the business tries to set itself apart with one-on-one customers service, including experienced design and installation, as well as a large selection of flooring options now on display on the (literal) showroom floor.
Pillar said he feels like a hero after seeing homeowners’ reactions to newly installed or refinished hardwood. “Of all the flooring that can be put down, there’s so much satisfaction in doing hardwood floors,” he says.
