Disc Golf Tourney Open to Everyone, Including Kids

Wisconsin’s 17-event Disc Golf Tour spans the course of seven months, and the next stop happens to be in our own backyard. Held May 16-17, the Tower Ridge Disc Golf Open is a three round tournament (two on Saturday, one on Sunday) sanctioned by the PGDA. And, as fancy and official as the event sounds by name, it’s open to all walks of players – including kids – looking to get involved in the action. Built in 1996, Eau Claire’s Tower Ridge is a buzzed-about venue known for its hilly terrain and rigid fairways squeezed between dense forestry. Because of its relatively challenging design, the dual 18-hole site draws players from surrounding Midwestern states. In the case of the Open, this sort of curiosity promises an action-packed weekend. For those looking to stay close to the venue, camping space is available at the tournament site for $10 a night (cheaper than a hotel, out-of-towners). And, what’s more, the campgrounds will include a players’ party with games, music, and a bonfire. The Chippewa Valley Disc Golf Organization boasts that this particular event is one of the Wisconsin Tour’s longest running. Almost 20 local businesses are sponsoring the event, including Water Street’s newly opened Disc Golf 365. With more than $3,000 in cash prizes spread over pro and amateur divisions, taking part in the Open is certainly worth a shot.
