Young Artists Sought for Pollock-style Project

Tom Giffey |

Legendary abstract painter Jackson Pollock may belong to the art history books, but his spirit lives in Eau Claire. Artist and storyteller Paula Gorski is in the process of creating a large-scale art installation in Eau Claire that will be inspired by Pollock’s signature style, and she’s inviting local 5- to 10-year-olds to help. The project, titled “Splat!” – a reference to Pollock’s revolutionary pouring, dripping, and splashing technique – is open to kids in kindergarten through fifth grades, and will take place on four Saturdays in August at Da Vinci’s Workshop, which is in Building 13 (Studio 127) at Banbury Place. In the workshops, Gorski will collaborate with 10 kids to paint a 20-foot-by-20-foot floor mural in her new studio. The finished mural – which, naturally, will bear the young artists’ signatures – will be unveiled during a grand re-opening gala for Da Vinci’s Workshop on Saturday, Sept. 7.
