Chalking It to the Streets

Chris Macheichok |

North High School marketing students are gaining valuable skills and helping out local businesses with a fundraiser they are calling “Chalk It Up,” a campaign to help farmers market officials buy the life-size sculpture “Granny’s Garden” that has been decorating downtown as a part of this year’s Sculpture Tour. These students have been offering advertising to local businesses in the form of chalk space, which will be displaying artwork during the farmers market on Oct. 27 and 28. The marketing students of North High plan to develop the advertisements while local artists that participated in the Volume One event Chalkfest are going to translate them to the sidewalk. Coordinators hope the event will draw more people to downtown’s small businesses, giving them a chance to appreciate the final farmers markets of the season, and add a thematically suiting sculpture for permanent display in the pavilion.
