Volume One's First-Ever Poetry Contest
Volume One, the Chippewa Valley's biweekly arts and culture publication, is now accepting entries for its first poetry contest. We are seeking original, unpublished, poetic entries from the local community. Submissions can be up to 1,000 words and may not exceed 100 lines. It is also encouraged to enter two supplemental haiku poems about something in the local community. (Haikus will not be eligible for prizes, but several of the best will be published.)
Prizes include having the work published in Volume One, free admittance to a non-fiction writing course through UW-Eau Claire's Continuing Education office with professor and author Dr. John Hildebrand for Fall 2010 called "Writing the Memoir." (Details about the class will not be available until March, at which time you can find information at www.uwec.edu/ce/enrichment.) Second place will receive a $40 gift certificate to Bookends on Main, and third place will receive a $20 gift certificate to The Book Cellar.
Entries are due by January 20, 2010.
Both The Book Cellar and UW-Eau Claire's Continuing Education helped make this year's contest possible. Full rules are below.
To submit, e-mail your entries with a title, author name, address, phone number, and e-mail to trevor@volumeone.org.
