Peer Validated is a music blog whose signal originates from somewhere in the Chippewa Valley. The writers do a podcast on the VolumeOne.org. Yes, the website you are on right now. Every week the guys (from Peer Validated) put together a couple of half hour podcasts that are loosely tied together by a theme or title. It's a half hour of good music, a few laughs, and maybe some sounds of awkward white guy dancing. Yeah, you can hear it over the internet. It's eerie. Read more at www.PeerValidated.com.

Indie songs that kick a: The Black Eyed Snakes, American Princes, The Alarmists

Andy Plank helps Ian talk about what makes an indie band kick major booty. All of these bands taste like motor oil in your mouth, but, you know, in a good way. Topics Discussed: The sea turning red, being too big for your own good, barbecue commercials. Topics not Discussed: Ian's unhealthy cookie obsession, Weird Al's unheralded (but still impressive) mane of hair, the economy totally crapping the bed.

Forest Fire, Bark Hide and Horn, The Duchess and the Duke, and Andy Plank comes home

Andy returns from his long, hard, gross trip to Arizona. He came back with a tan and a hankering for psuedo-hipster indie music. He can also drink straight scorpion venom. Topics Discussed: Arizona Sun, getting off on the wrong foot, snail copulation. Topics not Discussed: Prince Fielder's giant head, blowing up fingers with old firecrackers, finding new products in old locations.

Jon and Ian ask, "What makes a good short song?"

Jon and Ian explore the idea of the short song. What makes a good one? Who is writing them? Is there a pattern? Does Randy Newman hate these songs too? Topics not discussed: The bean bag chair's role in the 21st century, formula one race car drivers who look like Snidely Whiplash, and the smells you smell when you're totally sick.

Lackthereof, Chris Koza, Ra Ra Riot, lots of other music, and The Wars of 1812 in the studio.

Ian and Jon Sunde (of the Daredevil Christopher Wright) welcome St. Paul based band, The Wars of 1812. They talk about recording music, Pepsi, phone calls, and the difference between De Pere and Green Bay. Oh, and some tunes are listened to. Topics not discussed: why Perrier looks so good in the bottle but tastes so gross in your mouth, uncomfortable uncle moments, the pros and cons of a farmer's tan.

Ryan Adams, David Carsten Daniels, the Black Eyed Snakes, and many more.

We couldn't get enough succinct songs the first time around, so we decided to have another go at it. Ian an guest Mitch Gustafson shoot their mouths off about all kinds of musical nonsense. Highlights include kicking butt in under two minutes, David Carsten Daniels and the perfect song, and bands that make you chain smoke. Topics not discussed: Why Billy Corgan joins bands with terrible names, local jail shenanigans, and if Ironman could beat Batman in a turf war. Hint: He totally couldn't.

Vampire Weekend, The Gentle Guest, nerds and dorks

Ian and guest host Mitch Gustafson talk about a plethora of subjects: local band The Gentle Guest, being hypercritical of Vampire Weekend, bands who smash bottles, and the fine line between nerd and dork. Topics not discussed: The Olympics, Gary Sheffield's slumping batting average, and the band System of A Down's facial hair tendencies. (Part 1 of 2.)

Jon Sunde In The Studio 2

Jon Sunde (The Daredevil Christopher Wright) stays in studio as Ian attempts to play only songs he deems "epic." Ironically, it is neither an "epic" success or failure, but somewhere in between.
