On the weekend of April 2 and 3, all four frontrunners for the 2016 Presidential Primary race visited Eau Claire to rally support ahead of state elections on Tuesday, April 5 – part of their week-long campaigns in Wisconsin. U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders spoke at UWEC's Zorn Arena on Saturday morning (with local bands opening the event and an introduction from Justin Vernon). Former U.S. Sen. and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke at the Lismore Hotel in downtown Eau Claire that afternoon. TV star, real estate mogul, and current frontrunner Donald Trump visited Memorial High School that evening (amid a peaceful protest across the street). And U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz spoke at the Florian Gardens on Sunday evening (with an introduction from Governor Scott Walker).
