March Madness: Cheddar Than Ever!

Rachel Witthoft |

Menomonie Market Food Co-op marketing manager, Beth Martin, has informed us that the MMFC is celebrating March Madness by holding their second annual "Cheddar Madness Competition." This contest invites both staff and customers to participate in a cheesy bracket tournament by sampling cheddar contenders and picking their favorites to ultimately crown a champion. Last year, the “Big Cheese” was a Wisconsin-crafted product called Sartori Montamore.

Projected to win the 2018 Championship is the Milton Creamery’s Prairie Breeze from Iowa – a shudder-worthy thought for Wisconsin cheese connoisseurs. However, Wisconsin’s Artisan Cheese Exchange has two promising competitors in the running, The Stag and The Fawn.

The Cheddar Madness Competition begins on Thursday, March 15 at 11am, and continues until the final showdown on Thursday, March 29. As Martin explains, “After learning about other co-ops running successful cheese bracket competitions during March Madness we started our own in 2017. We knew it would be a tasty and fun experience for both our customers and staff!”
