Most of us spend a big share of our time online these days, and children are no exception. And as easy as it is to let your kids veg out in front of a screen – they’re using that iPad for homework, right? – it’s also easy to get anxious about the perils of life online. A new podcast from the Wisconsin Department of Justice can help put these worries in perspective and give parents the upper hand in dealing with potential online dangers. The Protect Kids Online podcast, which was created by the Departmet of Justice’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, is meant for parents, grandparents, teachers, and anyone else concerned about kids’ online safety. Topics of the biweekly podcast include tips and methods for combating online child exploitation, Internet safety laws, cyberbullying, healthy online habits, protecting your child from strangers online, safe sharing tips, and information about popular apps (including Yik Yak, Whisper, and MeetMe). “The Internet is a tool that provides society great opportunities for education, progress, and efficiency, but it also provides child predators easy access to our children,” Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel said in a press release. “The new Protect Kids Online Podcast will give parents and guardians the information they need to stay a step ahead of their children and the criminals preying on them.” You can listen to the podcast online at protectkidsonlinewi.gov or download it via iTunes or Google Play.
