The World Beer Cup Awards – the huge, diverse, global beer competition that (this year) boasted entries from 58 countries – announced their results earlier this month. And guess who came away triumphant not once, but seven times? That’s right, Wisconsin left Denver – where this year’s event was held – with three golds, two silvers, and two bronzes, plus bragging rights for six of our obviously top-notch breweries. So raise your glasses to these talented, Sconnie brewers:

  • Sprecher Brewing Co. (Glendale, WI)
       - Gold in German-Style Schwarzbier for Black Bavarian
       - Bronze in Gluten-Free for Shakparo
  • Central Waters Brewing Co. (Amherst, WI)
       - Gold in Wood- and Barrel-Aged Strong Stout for Sixteen
  • Miller Brewing Co. (Milwaukee, WI)
      - Silver in American-Style Lager or Light Lager or Pilsener for  Miller Genuine Draft
  • Plank Road Brewery (Milwaukee, WI)
       - Silver in American-Style Cream Ale for Icehouse
  • Blitz-Weinhard Brewing Co. (Milwaukee, WI)
       - Bronze in American-Style Cream Ale for Henry Weinhard’s Blue Boar
  • Vintage Brewing Co. (Madison, WI)
       - Silver in Irish-Style Red Ale, for McLovin

Our friendly Minnesotan neighbors were right behind us with six titles; they left victorious with two golds, three silvers, and one bronze. The annual competition put on by the Brewers Association, a non-profit dedicated to small brewers and their craft, began in 1996 “to celebrate the art and science of brewing by recognizing outstanding achievement.” Download the full list of 2014 winners here.
