Famous for its TED Talks video series, TED is a non-profit organization producing events built around sharing technology, entertainment and design – and soon TED will be featuring two UW-Stout professors. Kelly O’Brien, UW-Stout assistant professor of art and art history, has been asked to perform at this year’s Atlanta event. O’Brien plans to live sculpt an 8-foot-long sculpture during the one day event, to be installed onstage.

Physics assistant professor Matt Kuchta and will also perform at a 2013 TED event – this time at the annual TEDYouth Conference in New Orleans. Kuchta’s presentation will consist of a discussion on “Sand Science.” The event will also host a crowd of 400 or so high school students, where Kuchta will discuss what sand is, how it is formed and why sand castles stand up.
