Last week, on Thursday night, we won not one but two awards at Downtown Eau Claire Inc.’s annual banquet at Houligans Steak and Seafood Pub. Our refurbished new digs at 205 N. Dewey St. (aka Volume One World Headquarters, home of The Local Store) won the Renovation of the Year Award. In addition, The Local Store and the Volume One Gallery were named Retail Business of the Year. They may not be the Oscars or the Grammys, but these awards (the Downies, maybe?) still make us proud.

There were a number of other winners who can be proud of rising to the top of the voting. (Nearly 500 people cast ballots.) UW-Eau Claire’s beautiful new Davies Student Center won Development of the Year; the Beatles-themed store When I’m 64 won Best New Business; Houligans Steak and Seafood Pub and Pad Thai tied (or should that be Thai’d?) for Restaurant of the Year; Eau Claire Ford was named DECI Member of the Year; the Clearwater Winter Parade and Family Fun Celebration was honored as Best New Event; Mike Mundell was named Volunteer of the Year; and Karen Fenimore and John Curtis were given the Dedicated Service Award.
