Well, it wasn't heralded all loud and proud, but Eau Claire's Books-A-Million (BAM!) officially opened in the old Borders location on Friday, November 4 at "around 6:06pm." (Thanks for the tip, Anonymous). Just in time for the holiday shopping frenzy, of course.

We called for details and found out the new store will offer books, music, and DVDs just like Borders. They say the children's section as been somewhat expanded, and they've got a lot more electronics. There's still a little coffee shop/café with coffee drinks and baked goods. And now there's a whole Hallmark section with cards and wrapping paper and whatnot.

There's supposed to be lots of seating and if you have one of their rewards program cards, you have access to free wi-fi (otherwise its $5/day). You'l also be able to play with Nook ebook readers.

We asked about a local interest or local author/artist section and they said we could expect something along those lines, but it's yet to really be developed. Eventually they'll start having readings and other in-store events.

The Eau Claire location is BAM's only outpost in Wisconsin.
