Going local and organic online?

Finding an organic farm in Wisconsin used to be as easy as finding a Vikings fan in Green Bay. Well the proverbial Vikings team just took over Lambeau Field.

Wisconsin is now top-ranked in organic agriculture and leads the nation in organic dairy production. Going off 2007 stats, there are over 1,443 certified and uncertified organic farms in our state, with over 195,603 acres. (Take that California.)

Finding an organic farm is now a simple click away. The Wisconsin Organic Farm and Business Directory is the place to go if you want to locate your friendly neighbor organic grower and distributor.

This directory was created in 2002 by the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP). It has grown exponentially in the last few years and you can easily search the directory by name, crop, county, or category.

The DATCP decided that organic farmers needed a central location to gather virtually, and stresses that all Wisconsin farmers should join. If you are interested in joining the Wisconsin Organic Farm and Business Directory simply fill out this PDF.
