Are you a local tree lover? Then you’re not alone.

Did you know that the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources maintains a detailed record of the largest trees in the state? Oh, yes. These are the so-called "champion trees."

However, these champion tree records have become dilapidated in recent years. That is why the DNR is calling out to all tree watchers across the state to keep your eyes peeled and measuring tape on hand. In case you are stumped (ho!) on how to measure a tree check this out.

If you're keeping score, some of the old champions had a bit of a tumble, and lost their leader status, but anyone can nominate a new tree for champion membership. As the DNR’s website explains, “Hunting for the big ones can put you in touch with our natural resource heritage.”

Yep, if you find enough champion trees on your own, you can be qualified to become a Big Tree Inspector. That is the perfect job title to add to your résumé. For more info on how to nominate your neighborly champion tree, click over here.
