City Council Says No to Downtown Jail

As you’ve probably heard, the county’s downtown jail plans were voted into oblivion by the Eau Claire’ City Council on Tuesday. There was a call to delay the vote, but that was voted down, and so the jail vote commenced and there was a big, huge voting party with cake and punch. At least, that’s how I see it in my head. Anyway, six council members voted against the project, while five voted in favor. Check it out:

Against it (6): Bob Von Haden, Thomas Vue, Andrew Werthmann, Larry Balow, Brandon Buchanan, and Berlye Middleton. In favor of it (5): Dave Duax, Thomas Kemp, Kerry Kincaid, David Klinkhammer, and Jackie Pavelski.

Gotta say, we were surprised by the Kemp vote. But at any rate, the county must now come up with new plans, and it’s obvious they’ll be strongly analyzing non-downtown locations.
