Wisconsin to Legalize
Office Gambling Pools?

Apparently there’s some sort of big college basketball game going on this month. Anyone else hear about that?

In related news, a ragtag (and bipartisan) group of Wisconsin senators and congressmen are working their little hearts out and shooting for the stars – by taking time out of their busy day of lawmaking to propose legislation making it legal to bet on sporting events. As long as you do it in a pool. At your office. Weird. How many offices have pools? From WEAU.com ...

  • Three Wisconsin lawmakers say residents should be able to enter NCAA Tournament pools without running afoul of the law. … They said Monday they plan to introduce a bill making the college basketball pools legal.
  • Zepnick says most pools are for small dollar amounts between friends and colleagues. He says it's innocent fun that shouldn't be outlawed.
  • Honadel says laws should focus on public safety, not harmless fun among co-workers.

Under the proposal, a pool would only be legal among people working at the same company, and there’d be a $50 limit. Eh. Sports. Here at the Volume One office, the only thing we bet on is who’s gonna be a jerk and eat the last Kwik Trip donut.
