Master Singer Presents: America, My Home: Flight Song
The program will feature The Rivers' Song by Elaine Hagenberg, a commissioned work funded by a grant from Visit Eau Claire in honor of the opening of the new arts center in Eau Claire. The commissioned work, accompanied by The Bridge String Quartet from UW-Eau Claire and piano, is based on the poetry of Max Garland and John Muir. The Master Singers are pleased to welcome Elaine Hagenberg, composer, to the stage as the pianist for the premiere of the work from Des Moines. In addition, The Master Singers is also pleased to welcome to the stage Meghan Kulig, narrator for the program.
The program presented in two halves, will begin with a tribute to the military with the 100th Anniversary of the Armistice Day in 2018. Works will include Invictus by Joshua Rist; Flanders Field by Paul Aitkin; the Dying Soldier by Nigel Short and God Bless America by Irving Berlin featuring the audience in song. The second half of the program will focus on the grand opening of the Pablo Center at the Confluence. In addition to the commissioned work, the program will focus on the beauty of nature in the Chippewa Valley with I Will Be Earth by Gwyneth Walker; Sure on This Shining Night by Morten Lauridsen; and Down to the River to Pray, an American Folk Song and Flight Song by Kim Arneson. The 2018 Fall Concert by The Master Singers is marking the twenty-sixth anniversary in a series of programs entitled America, My Home, dating back to 1998.
