Faculty Forum: Metaphor in Art: Contemporary Translation of the Sedna Creation Story

Metaphor in Art: Contemporary Translation of the Sedna Creation Story. Presented by UWEC professor Cedar Marie, Art & Design. This creative research takes its conceptual and metaphorical strength from the creation story of Sedna, Goddess of all Sea Life. There are many versions of the story, yet themes of love, betrayal, and resiliency are common among them. This presentation will give an overview of the Sedna story and discuss the artwork I created for the exhibition From the Belly of our Being: Art by and about Native Creation, hosted by the Oklahoma State University Museum of Art.
