Back Roads of Wisconsin Hugh Mandelert Art Society Exhibit

To quote Hugh Mandelert, “Here we are in the middle of all this beauty in Wisconsin,” so it is understandable that he encouraged the artists who studied with him and currently make up the Hugh Mandelert Art Society to paint what surrounds them. This resulted in various road trips with Hugh, searching for reference material. One of the most memorable road trips, being Slough Gundy on the Flambeau River, was the inspiration for his series of "Slough Gundy Wood Elves." Hugh was well known for his love of painting familiar scenes, especially his hometown of Chippewa Falls, which inspired this year’s theme, “Back Roads of Wisconsin.”
