Quartet for the End of Time
Musician and composer Olivier Messiaen (1908 –1992) was interned in a German prison camp in 1940 where he discovered other musicians among his fellow prisoners, and created the Quartet for the End of Time. Namji Kim (piano), Nobu Yasuda (violin), Dr. Richard Fletcher (clarinet), and Dr. Tulio Rondon (cello) perform this amazingly complicated and emotional piece. The Quartet is a musical extension of the Biblical account of the descent of the seventh angel who announces the end of time, and is based in part on ancient Hindu and Greek rhythms.

The Madison band Yid Vicious was formed in 1995 to ameliorate the lamentable dearth of klezmer in America's otherwise pleasant heartland. Classical Guitarist, Jeffrey Jaworksi will perform a selection of classical pieces. His recent performances include solo programs at the Heyde Center, UW-Green Bay, UW-Eau Claire, in Milwaukee, and UW-Waukesha. He has collaborated with the wind faculty at the UW-Eau Claire, as well as, with flute and piano.

Once every four years, a select few young pianists emerge victorious from the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. One of the six finalists in the 2009 competition is Evgeni Bozhanov, a 25-year-old pianist from Bulgaria. Celebrate the gifts of a young virtuoso when the Artists Series present a special solo performance by this 2009 Cliburn winner.
