Musician and composer Olivier Messiaen (1908 –1992) was interned in a German prison camp in 1940 where he discovered other musicians among his fellow prisoners, and created the Quartet for the End of Time. Namji Kim (piano), Nobu Yasuda (violin), Dr. Richard Fletcher (clarinet), and Dr. Tulio Rondon (cello) perform this amazingly complicated and emotional piece. The Quartet is a musical extension of the Biblical account of the descent of the seventh angel who announces the end of time, and is based in part on ancient Hindu and Greek rhythms.

The musical partnership between Alasdair Fraser, long regarded as Scotland's premier fiddle ambassador, and the sizzlingly talented cellist Natalie Haas may not seem an obvious one. But this unlikely pairing is the return to a long-standing musical tradition. "Going back to the 1700s," Fraser says, "fiddle and cello made up the dance band of choice in Scotland." The duo's not-to-be-missed performance displays dazzling teamwork, dancing rhythms, and a shared passion for Scottish tunes.
