The Hopefuls + Zoo Animal
The Hopefuls` songs feature xylophone rifts, synthesizer fills, and hand claps help create a peppy and upbeat swagger that entices audiences to clap and dance along. The Hopefuls` buoyant pop and infectiously peppy songs have been compared to Weezer, The Cars, Fountains of Wayne, and The New Pornographers. The Hopefuls music has also been featured on The O.C. and Laguna Beach. Supporting The Hopefuls, is Zoo Animal a trio out of Minneapolis. Zoo Animal is all that its name holds, a tamed and controlled rock sound that every once in a while lets out a rocking roar for the zoo goers. Holly Hansen`s smooth alto and simplistic take to music is reminiscent of Cat Power. This is a show not to be missed.

Lois Images
Whimsical photo manipulations by Lois Bravo. Lois creates her art images by taking a photograph, using Photoshop CS2 to liquefy the colors, and then re-forming the colors into a unique and different “Lois Image” that has no resemblance whatsoever to the original photo except for the colors, which are usually vivid, intense, and stimulating. The images are surrealistic and primitive in style. They seem to exhibit a startling, dreamlike supernatural quality, an altered awareness that is sometimes subtle, sometime obvious.

Art Faculty Show
Lia Johnson and Scott Robertson are this fall's featured faculty artists. Johnson's doctoral thesis in curriculum and instruction tracked belief change using narratives and text analysis. This thesis informs her art, which is conceptual and consists mostly of sculpture created from mixed media — rubber, metals, fibers, found objects and text. Johnson is inspired by an interest in the materials and the stories embodied in them. She uses these materials in an intentional way to express some rudimentary and universal emotions. Robertson has created a series of six ink drawings for the exhibit. The subject of the series is the interplay between structure and the organic elements. Robertson's approach to this series is similar to automatic surrealism, in which the artist begins with a mark and then lets the drawing instrument be guided by his or her subconscious. He begins with very limited marks and intricate cross-hatching that are often closely related and continuously repeated, creating a pattern. The patterns are all based on inspirations from nature.
