Friday, 1pm

Here’s a quick snapshot of one of the “sets” for Friday’s big, 3-hour web-a-thon to be broadcast LIVE from the Volume One office at 1pm, right here on the VolumeOne.org homepage. Big thanks to Community Television for lending us their cameras and mixing equipment. Our office is a huge tangle of cords and lights right now, and we’ll be having a steady stream of guests filing through the doors throughout the show.

Yeah, we’re doing all this to try and get a bunch of people to sign up for a Volume One membership package. But we’re also doing this because it’s never been done around here. We’ve never tried anything like this, so we’re not really sure what to expect. We’ve got five sets, three cameras, zero telethon experience, and three hours to fill. It’s just our staff and interns running the thing. Should be fun.

Later today, you’ll be able to leave comments and Facebook updates and tweets from right here on this screen, right under the LIVE broadcast window. Doing so will enter you to win a “staycation” prize package, including a hotel stay, tickets, and free food. And if a staycation doesn’t get you excited, how about guests like Justin Vernon, Michael Perry, Daredevil Christopher Wright, and world record whip cracker Adam Winrich? What’s that do for you?

Actually, I think you need to state exactly who it was that forgot to hit record.

Yes, someone forgot to hit record during the first hour. Now don't make me feel any dumber than I already do about it.

What happened to hour one? Did someone forget to hit record?

Orca, the Web-a-thon Telethon was not gathering money for a charity. It's asking people to support Volume One's yearly array of community-based activities by becoming members and selecting one of five packages of gifts for their support.

So what charity is this telethon gathering money for?

Where do I find this Live Spectacular? I've looked all over but can't find an access point!

Nope, no Big Week this week! Three hours of telethon instead.

So, will there be a live "Big Week" today, or will it be late like the distribution of the new issue? (lloking forward to everything irregardless!)

Otherwise you can just pop on headphones, make the window small and toss it in the corner of your screen. Work + entertainment. Can life get any better? I submit that it cannot.

I'll be watching. Another great benefit of working from home. W00T!

Something to ease the cabin fever other than the Northern Exposure DVD's! Keep up the good work.

Ok guys, for those of you worried about having to "work" instead of watching the Web-a-thon Telethon, here is your plan:

1. Take your lunch break at 1pm. Order pizza to be delivered to your office/workplace. Gleefully watch the first hour uninterrupted. Then, for the remaining two hours... um, tell your boss you need to do important "research" on business promotion via web video telecasts and social media integration - and that watching our Web-a-thon is critical to the success of their business in the coming year! No problem. The boss will even be impressed.

2. If we don't screw it up, we are going to try and record and then rebroadcast the entire 3-hour event throughout the weekend. But seriously, we might screw that up so don't count on it.

3. If none of that works, we are going to also try and have some highlights permanently added the site for your future enjoyment.

Choose one, but obviously #1 is by far the wisest option.

Ditto, Karline. I'm bummed that us, the soldiers of the economic machine, will be missing out.

Is there gonna be a highlights reel for those of us rocking the office jobs and thus unable to watch?

Pleez?
