Best Ski Trip Destination

1st Place: Christie Mountain
2nd Place: Afton Alps
3rd Place: Lutsen Mountains

Well, here in Wisconsin, the mountains aren’t that tall and the slopes aren’t that treacherous, but that doesn’t mean that Wisconsinites don’t yearn to ski and board all winter long. Your favorite drivable ski trip spot is none other than Christie Mountain (W13755 County Highway O, Bruce), which boasts a ton of blanketed trails with a variety of difficulties, and a couple of black diamond runs with some death-defying cliff jumps for the unafraid. Coming in second place is a gem in the St. Croix River Valley, Afton Alps (6600 Peller Ave., Hastings, Minn.). Just south of the Twin Cities, Afton’s been purveying mighty fine ski slopes for you to shred for over 50 years. And finally, perhaps the largest downhill ski area in the Midwest, Lutsen Mountains (445 Ski Hill Road, Lutsen, Minn.), will whet your appetite for a good downhill ski sesh. —Eric Christenson
