Best Community Business Leader

1st Place: Zach Halmstad
2nd Place: Mike Buck
3rd Place: Denny Volbrecht

Zach Halmstad, co-founder and public face of JAMF Software, won this category by a landslide. Halmstad — a grad of Eau Claire North and UW-Eau Claire — is grateful for the opportunities he was given by the community, and he has given back to it through business ventures (building his fast-growing company’s 70,000-square-foot office downtown, investing in two hotel renovations) and philanthropy (the Confluence Project). Mike Buck, president and CEO of Mega Co-op, which operates grocery and convenience stores across the region, came in second. Two years ago, Buck won the Excellence in Operations Award from the Wisconsin Grocers Association, and he serves on numerous local boards. No. 3 in the balloting was Denny Volbrecht of building-material maker Midwest Manufacturing. —Barbara Arnold
