Best Body of Water for Recreation

1st Place: Lake Wissota
2nd Place: Chippewa River
3rd Place: Lake Altoona

As Chippewa Valley residents, we’re lucky to have so many accessible bodies of water nearby. Just 14 miles north of downtown Eau Claire, first-place Lake Wissota offers swimming, sailing, water skiing, boating, and fishing, as well as lakefront dining at restaurants like The View. Our beloved Chippewa River is the perennial favorite for summertime floating, with multiple places to put in and take out for long or short floats. Third-place Lake Altoona offers some of the same activities as Lake Wissota on a smaller scale. Plus, the beach at Lake Altoona County Park is great for relaxing, swimming, and barbequing. And the Eau Claire Ski Sprites perform there all summer long. —Amanda Foxcroft
