Best Local Play (non-musical)

Just in time for Halloween, the Eau Claire Children’s Theatre offered audiences some (alleged) witchcraft with its production of The Crucible. The play follows a servant girl who accuses a young farmer’s wife of witchcraft. The young farmer then finds himself accused of witchcraft and is condemned with a host of others. On the completely opposite end of the spectrum, ECCT presented The Cat in the Hat on stage last February for folks of all ages to enjoy. And right before the gun-deer hunting season began, the Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild brought the laughs with Duck Hunter Shoots Angel, which follows two Alabama brothers who have never shot a duck but think they have just shot an angel. – Caitlin Boyle
