Best Kept Secret

1st Place: Weaver’s Country Store
2nd Place: Lazy Monk Brewing Taproom
3rd Place: Devil’s Punchbowl

As you can tell from our poll results, the Chippewa Valley has lots of cool places to be proud of – as well-known as Leinenkugel’s and as personal as The Joynt – but there are still some phenomenal places that fall under the radar, and for that reason we bring you the Best-Kept Secret category. Coming in first by a narrow margin is Weaver’s Country Store (E13855 U.S. 12, Fall Creek). The quaint, family-run bulk-foods shop opened in 1990 and carried local food and natural goods before they were cool. Hotly following in second place is the Lazy Monk Brewing Taproom (320 Putnam St., Eau Claire). The small space is part of the massive Banbury Place complex near downtown Eau Claire, and you’ll find the local brews are complemented with endless pretzels. And third, the Devil’s Punchbowl (Paradise Valley Road, Menomonie), a tiny naturally formed canyon, is specially and uniquely sunlit to provide a truly one-of-a-kind outdoor experience. But shh, don’t tell. –Eric Christenson
