Best Hiking/Biking Trail

1st Place: Chippewa River State Trail
2nd Place: Eau Claire River Route
3rd Place: Beaver Creek Reserve

Whether on foot or wheels, the Chippewa River State Trail is for all seasons. Perhaps that’s why readers have picked it as the Best Hiking/Biking Trail five of the seven years we’ve held this poll. The 26-mile route starts at the Chippewa-Eau Claire River confluence in Phoenix Park in downtown Eau Claire and follows an old railroad bed to Durand. Coming in second is the Eau Claire River Route, which is 1.5 miles and goes from downtown Eau Claire across the street from the public library to an old railroad bridge on the north side of the river on the Eastside Hill. Coming up third is Beaver Creek Reserve, along the Eau Claire River in rural Fall Creek. It has more than 400 acres of diverse land and is home to all kinds of flora and fauna, as well the famous Butterfly House and other attractions, when you need a rest. –Barbara Arnold
