“Curio” by Emily Lau
2018, ink and colored pencil, 8”x10”

Emily Lau attended UW-Eau Claire and received a BFA in Illustration in 2014. She is featured in Capsules Books directory: Pictoria Volume 2 | The Best Contemporary Illustrators Worldwide.

“While attending UW-Eau Claire, I wanted my artwork to be an instant read. One look and everything is clear. The wish to have the viewers understand is still important, but I have discovered that I love to leave a little room for mystery. Intricate details that can be easily overlooked is something I incorporate more and more into my body of work. My main goal is to generate a distinct mood or feeling through composition, color, and other techniques rather than tell the whole story. Above all, I want viewers to discuss the art and use their imaginations to take my narrative to a new level.” – The Artist

Volume One finds its cover art in a number of ways, from local art shows to random emails to knowing someone who knows someone who knows a great artist. The art always originates from a current or former Chippewa Valley resident. If you'd like to submit cover art, send us a message.
