Music, comedy, a crowd-surfing pizza guy – this is the legend of the Standup Getdown, a unique show put on by Clear Water Comedy where local comedians do a bunch of lightning quick standup sets punctuated by live music and other shenanigans. A staple at the now-closed House of Rock, the Standup Getdown has been dormant since the bar’s closure, but this fall it makes its stunning return Saturday, Sept. 14. I talked with one of the masterminds behind this event, Clear Water Comedy’s Cullen Ryan, about the details. “We want people to see what we got. We are in this for people to have fun, not make money.” This might be the first show ever at The Metro to cost only $5, and for that, you get to see tons of local funny people, three punk bands (Arms Aloft, The Penske File, and Deleter), and cut a rug with a post-show dance party with DJ Hot Donna. And it’s all ages, which is something that was never possible at old House of Rock. Tickets are on sale now at volumeonetickets.org. And if you buy in advance, you automatically get a free ticket to a Clear Water Comedy show Thursdays at The Plus and are entered to win two free tickets to see comedian Sean Patton live at The Plus on November 13. Get tickets and get down!
