Neighborly Efforts Underway in Shawtown

Barbara Arnold |

An association for residents of the Shawtown neighborhood on Eau Claire’s southwest side is in its formative stages. An initial planning meeting on June 18 drew 30 residents, from infants to octogenarians, to Newell Park. The next meeting will be 6:30pm on Wednesday, July 10, also in Newell Park. To gather more information from residents, a survey will be distributed in August via social media and door-to-door canvassing. The entrance to Shawtown is typically considered the intersection of Clairemont Avenue and Menomonie Street. Other geographic boundaries are still being discussed and determined in order to support the strong social connections that make up a neighborhood. A small group will review the bylaws of the Eastside Hill Neighborhood Association and a prior Shawtown neighborhood group. To keep up to date, visit www.facebook.com/ShawtownEC.
