Ensuring that women, infants, and children get their necessary nutrients has been a recent aim of the Eau Claire City-County Health Department. In order to achieve this goal, the department has opened a farmers market of its own that is open noon-5pm each Tuesday until Aug. 28.

The farm stand is located outside the Eau Claire County Government Center where the WIC Program is located. The department decided an on-site location would give mothers easy and immediate access to the nutrition they and their children need. Participants in the WIC Program receive $30 vouchers to use at the Eau Claire Downtown Farmer’s Market, and these vouchers can be used at the new Farm Stand, too. Senior vouchers are also accepted.

All in all, the farm stand functions as an additional source of locally grown and fresh produce, particularly for those who may struggle to make it to the Downtown Farmer’s Market. Items that can be found at the mini market include a variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables, herbs, and beautiful flowers grown by local farmers. It also features a “Veggin’ Out” booth that demonstrates cooking with fresh fruits and vegetables and offers samples, healthy recipes, and farmers market tips.
