5 Hot Examples of Summer Fun

Nick Meyer |

We’re all now officially headlong into that famous Wisconsin summer. It’s time to savor the many opportunities that pop up in our community this time of year, and as always, let Volume One be your guide to all there is to see, hear, do, and taste. In the “what’s new” department from Volume One, we’ve got all sorts of fresh things simmering under the summer sun. Read on…

FOOD TRUCK FRIDAY

Yeah, we’re excited by the sound of those three simple words, too. Volume One has partnered with Silver Spring Foods and a whole bunch of food trucks and trailers to present four dates of a monthly mobile food party in downtown Eau Claire. Some of the tastiest and most interesting vendors will be slingin’ their chow in the lot next to the Eau Claire River between Barstow and Farwell streets. Also supported by Visit Eau Claire, the series kicks off on July 13, and you can find the line up of trucks and all the dates and info at VolumeOne.org/foodtruckfriday.

VIDEO CASTING CALL

Ever thought you’d be good on camera? Volume One is gearing up to feature more videos on our website and social media about stuff going on in the area. So we’re seeking several different faces and voices of all ages to do simple and fun on-camera paid gigs hosting, talking, and touring the community. No experience or special education needed – just local folks who communicate well and relate to others. We’re doing two days of screen tests – July 15-16 – and you can learn more and sign up for a slot at VolumeOne.org/castingcall.

MASSIVE FARWELL MURAL

If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s time to head downtown. Volume One was proud to be one of many community sponsors to help make the huge new mural happen at the intersection of Farwell and Galloway streets, just a block from our front door. Artist Molly Z. visited from Chicago to be the very first Artist in Residence at the Oxbow Hotel. She, along with her team and several locals, created a 3,200-square-foot burst of color and design while hanging out for art talks and networking. It’s been a big conversation starter, and is pretty much downtown’s new selfie spot.

DOWNTOWN SUMMER SHOP HOP

If you haven’t yet heard, retail in downtown Eau Claire is on the rise with many new shops opening over the last year. Starting in June, 14 different downtown retailers partnered to create a summer-long event that can earn you the chance at a $1,000 downtown shopping spree if you visit 10 stores. Presented by us at Volume One along with Visit Eau Claire, it’s called the Downtown Summer Shop Hop and you can learn more about it and the recent burst of downtown retail activity through video, photos, and more at VolumeOne.org/downtownshops.

SATURDAY MORNING HULLABALOO

Our sister publication, Chippewa Valley Family, held its first-ever kids concert series event in Phoenix Park in mid June. Co-presented by Prevea Health, it’s called the Saturday Morning Hullabaloo, and several hundred people were there for the kid-focused fun with music, hula-hoops, bubbles, and one enormous parachute. The next ones are on July 14 and Aug. 25. See video, photos, and find more info at volumeone.org/hullabaloo.
