Chalkfest 2018 Is on the Way

Emilee Wentland |

It’s almost time to decorate UW-Eau Claire’s sidewalks with vivid colors and unique designs through chalk art. Every summer, Volume One and UWEC team up to present Chalkfest, a day-long celebration of all things artistic, creative, and, of course, chalk-related. Chalkfest allows local artists to make Wisconsin’s “most beautiful campus” even more beautiful with sidewalk chalk! On Saturday, July 28, artists of all kinds can decorate their own square on the sidewalk. For those not into drawing – or getting covered in chalk dust – the event encourages spectators to come observe, walk around, and enjoy the artwork. After artists are finished making the UWEC sidewalks more colorful, judges pick winners for an assortment of categories. In addition to highlighting art, Chalkfest also features a variety of family-fun activities, such as music, food, and even chalk-related games. Interested artists can register as individuals or groups at volumeone.org/sites/chalkfest. Participants can begin drawing at 8am on July 28 in the UWEC campus mall. The event is open to the public beginning 11am.
