Self-confidence, determination, resilience, compassion, hard work, good health, and education are the qualities that will be crowned in the Miss United States Wisconsin Pageant, scheduled for April 20-21 in the ballroom at the Lismore Hotel, 333 Gibson St., Eau Claire. Applications to compete are open through April 13.

The pageant is divided into eight age groups from eight years old and up, from Little Miss through Teen and Miss to Ms. Woman. The winners of this year’s pageant will receive a prize package that includes entry into the Miss United States Pageants in Orlando, Florida. Sara Axness, executive state director of the pageant, brought the competition to western Wisconsin this year to show Eau Claire that pageantry is nothing like what people see on television, and to bring the economic benefit of the production to a new part of the state.

“I know it takes a village to compete and prepare for a pageant, but to actually host and run one takes an entire city of people!” Axness said. More information about the pageant is available online at wi.missunitedstatespageant.com.
