What’s better than overflowing cone of delicious ice cream in a restored downtown Eau Claire building? Nothing, according to those who voted for the 10th Annual Downtown Eau Claire Awards – a.k.a. The Downtownys – which were given out Feb. 22 at The Lismore Hotel. Ramone’s Ice Cream Parlor, 503 Galloway St., won the Downtownys for Best Business, Best New Business, and Best New Renovation. Best Event went to Prex Claires and Oxbeax, which preceded the Eaux Claires Music & Arts Festival last summer. Retired Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce CEO Bob McCoy received the Outstanding Achievement Award, the Carson Park Causeway was Best New Development, Red’s Mercantile was Member of the Year, and Julia Johnson was Volunteer of the Year. The Downtownys are given out by Downtown Eau Claire Inc., a nonprofit organization that promotes downtown development. DECI also used the occasion to unveil a new logo and website. Eau Claire designer Stuart Sandler created the new logo and branding, while downtown business JB Systems revamped the website, DowntownEauClaire.org
