Construction Starts for New UWEC Dorm

Preparatory work has begun on the first new dorm built on the UW-Eau Claire campus in nearly 20 years. During the week of Jan. 15, fences were installed around the project’s staging area on what is now the Governors Hall parking lot on upper campus.

The $35 million, six-story residence hall will be built on the site of basketball and tennis courts north of Towers Hall. Those courts are slated for demolition in February. The dorm, which will house 432 students, is scheduled to open in August 2019. Meanwhile, Towers South is closed for the school year because of renovations, and Towers North is scheduled for similar renovations during the 2018-19 school year.
