Between the Mounds” by Daniel Atyim

“Exploring the function and meaning of surfaces, I find transition implicit in facades. I am interested in the ways that surfaces describe and dim underlying structures. Like Surrealist artists who begin their automatic drawings with little preconceived outcome, the preparatory work for my paintings and drawings is done directly on the support. This approach combines chance with expectation. The initial lines, marks and strokes of paint develop into shapes and forms that allude to equivocal experience. The layer of colored discs obscure the surface and impede translation. These fragments, sparring with the translation of the image, don’t quite create a complete narrative.” – The Artist

Volume One finds its cover art in a number of ways, from local art shows to random emails to knowing someone who knows someone who knows a great artist. The art always originates from a current or former Chippewa Valley resident. If you'd like to submit cover art, send us a message.
