fabulous Stockholm Art Fair returns for year 44

Max Martinson |

The picturesque community of Stockholm will be celebrating its 44th annual Art Fair on July 15. More than 100 juried artists will be showing their work right on the banks of the Mississippi River, and you can peruse them to the sweet sound of folk music with a fresh-squeezed lemonade in your hand. The live music seems well-suited to the occasion, easing into the morning with the peaceful music of Kenzie Joy and developing gradually toward the band Hot Flashes, which claims to be “a blast from the past, served with brass and some sass.” The fair is continuing its tradition of mixing established acts with new ones, displaying a variety of the area’s premier musicians. A host of local food vendors will be on the site as well, but if you’re one of the few people who can resist food trucks, it’s likely that some great art will whet your appetite. The fair welcomes a variety of artistic mediums ranging from painting to metal sculpture to jewelry to clay – there’s sure to be something that grabs your attention. If Stockholm seems like a bit of a hike, remember that you’ll likely enjoy the scenery during the drive: Whether you’re coming from Minnesota or Wisconsin, you’ll be driving along The Great River Road, which is bejeweled with scenic overlooks, historical markers, and a near-constant view of the Mississippi River. You’ll find the fair in Stockholm Village Park, overlooking Lake Pepin.
