Pedestrians and bicyclists have lost one of Eau Claire’s most scenic shortcuts, at least until the end of August. The Chippewa River footbridge – which links the two sections of lower campus – was closed effective May 22. According to a university press release, “The planned closure is for construction work on the bridge’s south end that is part of the university’s ongoing Garfield Avenue redevelopment project. The footbridge will reopen in time for the start of fall semester classes.” Through June 30, the university will offer a shuttle service from 7-9am and 3-5pm Monday through Friday. The shuttle will make stops at the Water Street and Human Sciences and Services parking lots and Centennial Hall.  In addition to the bridge closure, numerous on-campus parking changes for students, faculty, and staff will be in effect this summer.
