It may still be two months away, but it’s not too early to start thinking about UW-Eau Claire’s annual Viennese Ball. Tickets are already on sale for the elegant soiree, and they promise to be as hot as ever. The fancy music fundraiser, now in its 43rd year, is the largest Viennese ball outside of the actual city of Vienna and offers an opportunity for the community to experience the excellence of the university’s music program. The event was inspired by the historic New Year’s Eve Kaiser Ball, featuring thousands of flowers, gourmet treats, and musical ensembles spanning a full range of genres. The Viennese Ball is a much-anticipated fundraiser and celebration of the university’s involvement in music, service, and international study scholarships for students. Each year, all three levels of Davies Center are transformed into the largest extravaganza hosted by the university. Guests may waltz in the grand ballroom, swing dance to music from America’s Big Band Era, polka in the informal festival hall, sing along in the piano bar, and enjoy classical melodies on the Bösendorfer Imperial Grand Piano. Though the ball emphasizes social dance, you need not be an experienced dancer to have a good time. There is always something to do with the many performances, live music, and delicious refreshments. The event is not until April, but tickets have been known to sell out, so gather your friends for an opportunity to immerse yourself in Vienna’s charming traditions.
