New Scholarship Dedicated to LBGTQ Youth

V1 Staff |

A new leadership and scholarship program is the first of its kind for LGBTQ youth in Wisconsin, its sponsoring organization says. The Luginbill Children’s Foundation has announced the creation of the Andrew Cray Memorial Scholarship, which is named in honor of Andrew Cray, a Chippewa Falls high school graduate who dedicated himself to LGBTQ causes before his untimely death in 2014 at age 28. “The program is dedicated to a bright future for LGBTQ youth, and wants to ensure that they have the resources necessary to live their dreams – including post-secondary education,” the Luginbill Children’s Foundation said in a press release. Joe Luginbill, the organization’s founder, noted that LGBTQ young people may be cut off from financial resources by their families and often face financial hardships in their pursuit of higher education. A kick-off fundraiser for the scholarship program will be 6-9pm Friday, Feb. 24, in the Wilson Ballroom at the Lismore Hotel, 333 Gibson St., Eau Claire. Tickets, which are $15 in advance and $20 at the door, are available online at tinyurl.com/InvestingInYouth.
